I started the book and I wasn't so sure about this. Reading the back of the book, you learn it's about a little boy, 5 years old, who lives in an 11x11 room with his mother. His mother had been kidnapped 7 years earlier and has been held hostage in this room since then. This book is written from the point of view of the 5 year old boy-- which made me unsure about it at first. I found it hard to read at first and I had to re-read parts to figure out what he was talking about. Then I got the hang of it and I read more and more and couldn't put the book down.
Being a Psychology Minor and having a degree in Education, I understood a lot of what was going on in the book. Not saying that someone that doesn't have these degrees wouldn't. This book really goes into great detail of the psychology of a 5 year old who grew up in a room and then is suddenly exposed to the outside world. It just really made me remember things I learned in college about child psychology. The author dives into the things this little boy discovers once he is in the "outside" world. It really made me thnk about Jaycee Dugard and what she went through, and what her children are going through. It's gut-wrenching and such a sad story.
Honestly, this is one of the best books I have read in awhile. It earns 5 out of 5 stars.
