One day I was at Costco with my mom and came across another book by the same author called Honolulu. Even though I own a Nook and buy eBooks, I didn't even hesitate to buy this book. I loved the first one so much, I knew I would like this book.
Honolulu starts in Korea with a girl who is the only girl in her family. Her family has named her "Regret" because families do not want a girl, they only want boys. She doesn't feel as though she is good enough, so she goes behind there back and becomes a "picture bride". This is like a mail order bride where a Korean man living in Hawaii picks his bride based on her picture. It's quite the process if you ask me. Quick note, this book takes place in the early 1900s. As far as I know, they stopped this picture bride business.
Once Regret, later changing her name in Jin, arrives in Hawaii she is immediately married to her abusive husband. She runs away from him almost immediately and a whole series of events happen. I don't want to ruin the story for you so you're just going to have to read it and find out what happens to her after she runs away from her husband. Does he come back and find her?
